Great Marlow Buckinghamshire 1742) an inventor, manufacturer and merchant of London. 1830

There was huge demand for beer and for venues where the public could engage in social interaction, but there was also intense competition for customers. Gin houses and palaces were becoming increasingly popular, while the Beerhouse Act of 1830 resulted in a proliferation of beerhouses.

Pubs within a chain will usually have items in common, such as fittings, promotions, ambience and range of food and drink on offer.
